Osimhen Fires Galatasaray Into Champions League Round of 16 Despite Juventus Defeat

Victor Osimhen stepped up at the most important moment. Even though his team, Galatasaray, lost the match 3–2 to Juventus, they still qualified for the next round of the UEFA Champions League.

Galatasaray had already built a big lead in the first match. Across both games, they won 7–5 overall, so they advanced.

Osimhen scored the most important goal in extra time (105th minute). His shot went through goalkeeper Mattia Perin’s legs, shocking the home fans and effectively killing Juventus’ comeback hopes.

Even after scoring, Osimhen didn’t celebrate much because he wasn’t happy with his team’s overall performance.

During the interview, shortly after the game, Osimhen opened up about his anger.

I mean, it gives some, some kind of sense of relief, but I have to be honest with you. Um, I’m disappointed in the performance of the team, I mean, the whole team. And I have to give kudos to, to Juventus for the kind of display that they, that they put on. And, uh, yeah, we qualify, but I think, uh, we have a lot to, um, to improve on if we had to go into the, into the next round and play the big dogs. I think, um, yeah, this performance today was not really good. I think, um, Juventus deserved the win, but I’m happy for my, for my team to, to qualify for the next round.”

“I mean, to be honest with you, Meeting Liverpool now, he’s going to be like some sort of revenge. But I think, um, yeah, anyone, anyone we meet now. But I will, I wouldn’t say much, but I would like to, to escape Liverpool. But if they come, yeah, of course, we’re going to we’re going to dig it out, but it’s not going to be easy.”

“I mean, this is the Champions League, no team is easy, and we can see how flying follow glimpse are, are really doing in this tournament. So, if you try to win, you have to also play the, the big dog and make a statement for yourself. But I think we’ve meet Liverpool. But we haven’t played at Anfield. So, yeah, if we meet them, it’s going to be an amazing game, but I think, we’re to the task. It’s not going to be easy, of course, but I think, we have a fight  in us.”  He added.
