Arsenal’s Premier League title challenge suffered a major blow on Saturday as Bournemouth claimed a 2-1 victory at the Emirates Stadium, winning at the ground for the second season running.
Teenager Eli Junior Kroupi opened the scoring after 17 minutes, finishing at the back post from Adrien Truffert’s deflected cross. The goal was Kroupi’s 10th Premier League goal of the season, making him the first teenager to reach that landmark in their debut top-flight campaign since Robbie Keane in 1999-00.
Arsenal drew level before half-time when a corner struck Ryan Christie’s arm, and Viktor Gyökeres converted the resulting penalty, his 18th goal of the season across all competitions.
The second half saw Mikel Arteta make a triple substitution within ten minutes of the restart, introducing Leandro Trossard, Max Dowman, and the returning Eberechi Eze, who made his first appearance since suffering a calf injury in March.
Arsenal pushed for a winner but it was Bournemouth who found the decisive moment. With 15 minutes remaining, Alex Scott finished calmly from close range after a well-worked move down the right to give the Cherries the lead.
Arsenal created chances late on, Gyökeres and Gabriel Jesus both went close, but Djordje Petrovic held firm to secure all three points for Bournemouth.
Arsenal remain nine points clear at the top of the Premier League table, but Manchester City have a game in hand and the two sides meet at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, April 19.
Arsenal’s next fixture is the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Sporting CP at the Emirates on Wednesday, April 15, with the Gunners leading 1-0 from the first leg.
