Brighton & Hove Albion moved further up the Premier League table on Saturday with a commanding 2-0 victory over relegation-threatened Burnley at Turf Moor, as Dutch midfielder Mats Wieffer scored twice to seal all three points for the Seagulls.

A Tight First Half, Then Wieffer Strikes Late

The second half was largely controlled by Brighton, who managed the game with composure and confidence. Burnley pushed for an equaliser but created little of real danger against a well-organised visiting defence.
With three minutes remaining, Kaoru Mitoma won possession high up the pitch and played the ball into Wieffer’s path. The Dutch midfielder struck a powerful right-footed shot from outside the box to complete his brace and put the result beyond doubt.

Burnley have won just one of their last 22 Premier League matches and sit 19th in the table, 12 points adrift of safety with seven games remaining. The result all but confirms their return to the Championship.
Brighton, by contrast, continues to climb. Fabian Hürzeler’s side have won four of their last five games, with their 43 points placing them tenth in the table and within touching distance of seventh-placed Brentford. A European finish remains a realistic target for the Seagulls.
Burnley’s next Premier League fixture sees them face Nottingham Forest, while Brighton hosts Aston Villa.
